BIOGRAPHY:
Violet Winifred Dengate was born 17 June 1900 in Peasmarsh, East Sussex to Alfred Russell and Grace Ellen Dengate. She was baptised 19 August 1900 in St Peter and St Paul's Church, Peasmarsh.

Violet Winifred (known as Vi) began at Peasmarsh school on the 25 April 1904, aged 4 and left on the 21 October 1910 with her three brothers when the family moved to Whitstable, Kent.
During the First World War Violet worked for a munitions factory in Faversham, Kent.
Violet Dengate married Cecil Charles Rowden and they had one child, Desmond. Violet and Cecil lived in Whitstable all their lives, and for a while Violet worked with her father in a fruit and greengrocer's shop on Whitstable High Street where she made bouquets and wreaths.

Violet died 13 August 1968 aged 68 years in Whitstable and was buried next to her parents in Whitstable Cemetery. Her husband Cecil died the following year and is buried with her.

The grave inscription reads, "In remembrance of Violet Winifred Rowden died 13 August 1968, aged 68 years. Also of Cecil Charles Rowden died 6 November 1969 aged 74 years." The grave to the right of Violet and Cecil's is that of Violet's parents, Alfred Russell and Grace Ellen Dengate which also has the ashes of two of her brothers, Archie and Cyril Dengate.
