BIOGRAPHY:

Elsie Dorothy Dengate was born 13 October 1895 in Hastings, East Sussex to Ernest Alfred and Agnes Lucy Dengate.  She spent much of her life in the Salvation Army, where she met her husband to be, Jack Glazier.

The couple married on the 6 September 1922 in the Salvation Army Iron Fort, (Forerunner of the Hastings Citadel) Hastings.

The couple had one child, Clifford Arthur Glazier, who was born 1925 in Hastings, East Sussex.  Sadly, Clifford was killed by enemy action during the Second World War, aged 15 whilst waiting for a bus.  A crippled German bomber dropped a bomb in order to gain height which hit the cinema parapet, the blast killing Clifford Glazier.

In the First World War, Jack Glazier fought on the Western Front with the Royal Sussex Regiment, for which he received the 1914-15 Star.  Whilst Jack was serving in the West Indies on military service, he was bandmaster of the Jamaica Salvation Army Band.  Jack was also Young People's Bandmaster for over 30 years at the Hastings Citadel.  Jack retired in 1960, where he had for a long time run his own shop as a second-hand dealer.

Jack and Elsie's Golden Wedding Anniversary

Jack was the 'Welcome Sergeant' at The Salvation Army Citadel for the last 19 years of his life.  He died 1st March 1983 and after a service at The Salvation Army Citadel, was cremated at Hastings Crematorium.  

Elsie Glazier lived at the 'Lindens', a Salvation Army rest-home for the last few years of her life until she died on 2 March 1992, aged 96 years.  She was cremated at Hastings Crematorium following a service at the Salvation Army Citadel, Hastings.
