Ellen was interested in the Dengate family tree and in 1935 and 1936 wrote to the Reverend William Alfred Dengate at his parish of Staplefield, West Sussex requesting any information he had pertaining to the Dengate family.  Among the information imparted by Ellen of her great great grandfather James Dengate was, "My mother's great grandfather appeared to have lived at one time in the neighbourhood of Wrotham, Kent and was known to be rather extravagant keeping his own hounds for hunting..." These two letters and the Rev. William Alfred Dengate's reply have been passed to me by the late Miss Daphne Dengate, daughter of William Alfred Dengate.

Ellen's father William died 15th March 1924 and was buried 19 March 1924 in Rochdale Cemetery.  His wife Ellen died 23 November 1940 and was buried 26 November 1940 with her husband in Rochdale Cemetery.  Alice Maud Mary Weight died at 21 Marne Crescent in April 1956 and was buried 17 April 1956 with her parents in Rochdale Cemetery.
