BIOGRAPHY:
Cyril Dengate was born 23 September 1905 in Peasmarsh, East Sussex to Alfred Russell and Grace Ellen Dengate. He was baptised 17 December 1905 in St Peter and St Paul's Church, Peasmarsh.

Cyril began at Peasmarsh school on the 3 May 1909, aged 4 and left on the 21 October 1910 with his sister and two brothers when the family moved to Whitstable, Kent. Cyril, a sail-maker by trade, lived at home with his parents in Whitstable until the time of his marriage.
Cyril was a wonderful swimmer and entered races in the yearly regatta held at Tankerton.
Cyril met Helen Louise Brown (Nellie) whilst she was on holiday from London in Whitstable. They married on the 30 June 1928.

The couple had one child, Ronald Cyril Dengate, who was born 30 December 1930. Soon after Ronald's birth, the couple left Whitstable and moved to Kingsbury, London where Cyril set up his own successful second-hand tyre business, which he continued to run until after the Second World War. They made tyres for speedway bikes and were regulars in the pits at Wembley Lions.

During World War Two Cyril was in the Home Guard as he was in the reserved occupation of the tyre industry.
Cyril's brother Cecil went to work for him before the war and remained working there for several years. Cyril, Helen and Ronald moved back to Whitstable in February 1954. Cyril and Helen lived at 78 Marine Parade, while Ronald and his wife Audrey lived at number 77.
Cyril Dengate was living at 3 Kite Farm, Swalecliffe, Kent at the time of his death in 1977, but died at the Kent and Canterbury Hospital, Kent aged 71. He was cremated at Barham Crematorium, Kent and his ashes were interred in his parents grave in Whitstable Cemetery on the 19 April 1977. His wife, Helen Louise Dengate also died at the Kent and Canterbury Hospital aged 79 years, and her ashes were also interred with her husbands in his parents grave on the 28 September 1984.

The grave inscription reads, "Sacred memories my beloved husband Alfred Dengate died 4 March 1951 aged 76 years. Reunited Mum. Grace E. Dengate died 24 may 1960 aged 82 years." Also interred in the grave are the ashes of their two children, Archie and Cyril Dengate also the ashes of Helen Louise Dengate and Jean Dengate. The grave to the left of is that of Alfred and Grace's daughter, Violet Winifred and her husband Cecil Charles Rowden.
