The 1861 census shows Annie (listed as Anna) as a 5 year-old scholar living with her parents, elder brother Ernest Alfred and younger sister Fanny Dengate on Main Street, Peasmarsh, where Thomas was working as a grocer. In 1871 the 15 year-old Annie was recorded on the census as a servant, living with her parents and siblings in the King's Head, Peasmarsh.
On 30 January 1875, aged 18, Annie gave birth to her first illegitimate child, Alfred Russell Dengate. Then on the 5 July 1876, Annie gave birth to her second child, Matilda Dengate. From the 1881 census, it would appear that Annie raised the children in Peasmarsh along with her parents, Thomas and Frances Dengate, who took over complete parenting of the two children upon Annie's marriage. The school records for Peasmarsh show that Alfred joined Peasmarsh school 17th July 1883, a day after his sister Matilda. Interestingly, Alfred's parents are listed simply as 'Anne', whilst Matilda's are listed as 'Thomas and Frances'.

St Peter and St Paul's Church, Peasmarsh
Annie Dengate married Walter Clark on 19 November 1882 in St Peter and St Paul's Church, Peasmarsh. Witnesses to the marriage were Charlotte Smith and Annie's brother Charles Dengate, at whose wedding she would also be a witness in 1884.

Walter Clark, 1920 - possibly taken for his seventy-fourth birthday
Annie and Walter Clark had two children together; Charles Clark and Edith Clark, both born in Peasmarsh. The 1891 census shows the family living together at 2 King's Head in Peasmarsh, next door to Annie's parents, siblings and first two children. At the time of the 1901 census, Annie and daughter Edith were visiting her brother-in-law and his family in Great Chart, Kent, whilst Walter remained back in Peasmarsh working as a bricklayer.
It is so far unknown when Annie or Walter died.
