BIOGRAPHY:

Ada  Dengate was born 15 November 1884 in Hastings, East Sussex to Ernest Alfred and Agnes Lucy Dengate.  Ada was raised with her many siblings in Hastings, living first at 55 St George's Road, Hastings then soon after the family moved to 69 Manor Road where they would remain for many years.  The 1901 census shows Ada employed as a seventeen year-old domestic servant.

During World War Two Ada was working at an army and navy canteen, where she met Thomas Henry Donally, whom she later married.  After marriage the couple lived at Middlesbrough where they had twin girls, Joyce and Faith.  The family later moved to Walsall, Staffordshire, then back to Hastings.

Thomas Henry Donally died aged 64 years on the 6 February 1951 of cancer and was buried at Hastings Cemetery.  After Thomas' death Ada went to live with her daughters Faith and Joyce.  Ada never recovered after suffering from a fall and fracturing her femur.  She died in St Helen's Hospital, Hastings on the 19 April 1979, aged 95 and was buried in Hastings Cemetery with her husband.
