About Me

Nathan Dylan Goodwin

I was born and raised in Hastings, East Sussex and spent much of my early life there.

I spent almost a year living in Southern France in 1996/1997 before spending three years living and studying in Manchester, during which time I achieved a distinction in a BTEC OND Media Studies course.

In 2000 I moved down to Canterbury, Kent where I gained a II:I degree in Radio, Film and Television Studies.  My first book Hastings at War 1939-1945 was published in May 2005.  A follow-up book is currently nearing completion.

My interest in the Dengate family was started by my grandmother, Eveline Florence Dengate, taking me for walks in Hastings Cemetery to visit her Dengate family, whilst relaying stories and anecdotes of their lives.  Many of our branch of the Dengate family also lived in close proximity to the Hastings area, being centred for many years around the Salvation Army, allowing easy access to many people and their memories, photographs and archives.

Whilst I have been actively researching the Dengate family tree since 2000, I did conduct limited investigations into the family history in the 1990s and was fortunate to gather information and photographs from elderly relatives who have since passed away and whose help has been invaluable.

I am a member of the Hastings & Rother Family History Group, the Society of Genealogists, Sussex Family History Group and the Guild of One-Name Studies.
